Edel specialises in media relations, public affairs, and media and advocacy training. She has worked on projects for Concern, Children’s Medical Research Foundation (Crumlin Hospital), Headstrong, Archways, Young Ballymun, Community Action Network/Open Society Foundation, Marriage Equality, SAFE Ireland, the Disability Federation of Ireland, Edmund Rice Schools Trust, the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, Arthritis Ireland and The Alzheimer Society of Ireland. Prior to joining Persuasion Republic, she worked almost exclusively with public sector organisations, representative and campaign groups such as the National Educational Welfare Board, the National Disability Authority, Equality & Rights Alliance, One Parent Exchange & Network (OPEN) and Rape Crisis Network Ireland among others. She previously worked with international public relations companies, Fleishman Hillard and Hill & Knowlton, both in Dublin and in London. She also worked as a press officer with a political party for two general elections and as part of the press team for a Presidential candidate. Edel was appointed to the Compliance Committee of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) in 2009. She has completed a Master’s Degree in International Human Rights Law at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, NUI Galway, where she specialised in freedom of expression, children’s and minority rights.
